Paige, AZ

April 19 – 23

Arrived at the Lone Rock Campground. It was awesome in that you drove (rig and all) onto the beach and camped by Lake Powel. We were very excited to be there until talking with some neighbors who felt with wind the prior day. They said it was horrible and the next day was supposed to be windier. Many people were leaving to a campground a mile or so down the road. At this point we (I) was over the wind and did not want to get the camper and us sandblasted just to camp on the beach. We checked out the campground/resort nearby and moved there for the next few nights.

Lone Rock:

April 20 – mellow hang out at the campground day.

April 21 – Lower Antelope Canyon. Just WOW! Took Kens Tours in and took so many photos of this slot canyon.

April 22 – Took a boat tour of Lake Powel up Antelope Canyon. Another beautiful and fun adventure for all.

That afternoon we hiked to the Horseshoe Bend of the Colorado River. Followed up with the best Mexican food (El Tapitio).

Paige AZ was a great time. Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon had been dreams of mine for so many years. (And if only you didn’t need a permit to get to The Wave… maybe next time)

Grand Canyon National Park

April 16 – 19

We arrived at the Desert View Campground around 1pm the day the campground opened. Most of the sites were already taken! Thankfully we did find a spot that was big enough for us. The max length (trailer and truck) is 30ft… and we are like 50ft… It was tight.

We were walking distance to an overlook, Navajo Point, and strolled there after we got everything set up.

April 17 – We jumped on the shuttle bus and saw some more spots along the south rim and hiked the Trail of Time/Rim Trail.

April 18 – Took the shuttle to the end of Hermit Road. There is an old building built by the railroad as a destination. Again, more spectacular views. That afternoon we bushwacked near the campground and found the best views (we hiked out on the ridge on the left).

Dead Horse State Park, Cottonwood, AZ

April 9 – 14

Beautiful park in a fun town. Pretty historic downtown filled with stores and restaurants.

April 10 – went to hike in the Red Rocks State Park, but couldn’t bring Dexter so we went further down the road and hiked in the Nation Forest near Cathedral Rock. Hike included a decent river crossing and fantastic views of the red rocks. Don’t think we found any vortexes.

April 11 – Matt when on a Mountain bike ride while Dexter, Benat and I hiked out to Devil’s Bridge. I thought the trail brought you to the bottom and could choose to hike up top. However this was not the case, trail brought you almost to the top with no view until you are on top next to the bridge. Reading the description of the trail I assumed the last rock scramble would be too difficult for me, but with the help of some kind strangers I made it up! One guy brought Dexter up and another waited to help pull me up if needed. Another kind lady offered to wait and take my photo out on the bridge. It was AWESOME! The whole trail was 4 miles and I was tuckered by the end, not much water so I had to carry food and water for all of us.

April 12 – Matt went for a bike ride and the rest of us hung around the campground.

April 13 – Drove to the “ghost town” of Jerome. Quaint town purched on the side of a hill with amazing views. Lots of old buildings but maintained and filled with tourist shops.

Camp Verde, AZ

April 7 – 8

We needed a place to stay for the weekend because our reservations at a State Park in Cottonwood didn’t start until Sunday. Camp Verde was in a great spot and turned out to be a fun place!

We checked into our new RV Park and drove to see Montezuma’s Castle and Well. We like the cliff dwellings.

The next day we walked around the town and had our Anniversary lunch at the Camp Verde Brewing Company. Food and beer were so good and they had outdoor seating (so Dexter came with us) and a foosball table was fun entertainment for Benat.

Later that day we found a stream/swimming hole for Dexter to swim in and Benat to play in. We had to pull Benat from the water even though he was shivering! A beautiful spot next to some red rocks.
